What Is Health & Wellness Coaching?

After setting up my coaching practice last year, it’s been a joy connecting with my clients and helping towards their wellness goals.  However, health and wellness coaching is still a relatively new concept in the UK.  Although you may have heard the term floating around, perhaps you’re not really sure what it actually involves.

You may have asked yourself, what is health coaching? What does a health coach do? How can a health coach help me?

I thought now that I’ve built up lots of coaching experience now would be a good time to address some of the questions that I’ve been asked about coaching.

If you’re curious about working with a coach then this post will give you a clear insight into what a coach does and how they can help you, so keep reading!

What is health and wellness coaching?

Health and wellness coaches help and guide their clients to make changes to their routine that has a positive impact on their overall health.  The coach will offer support and accountability to move them forward towards their individual goals with actionable steps in order for them to develop a healthier mindset, daily habits, and create space for themselves.  A coach is your own personal cheerleader who will encourage you every step of the way.

I’m passionate about helping my clients develop solid wellbeing routines by:

  • Carving out time for self care
  • Creating healthy daily habits
  • Cultivating a positive mindset
  • Realistic and practical tools that are achievable in a busy life
  • Mindful techniques to create more calm

There are also many other ways that I help my clients supercharge their wellbeing and prioritise themselves.

I’m a certified holistic wellbeing coach with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. This means that I take a 360 approach when it comes to health and wellbeing.  It’s not just about what’s on your plate or how much you work out, nourishing your mind, body and soul is essential for a happier and healthier life.

What a health and wellness coach doesn’t do…

A health coach is not a registered nutritionist, dietician or personal trainer.  They may have had countless hours of studying in these areas, but they perhaps don’t have a specific qualification to offer advice on nutrition.  Additionally, a coach isn’t a therapist.  We’re good listeners and are able to give guidance on shifting your mindset, however, a coach is not qualified to offer advice on mental health issues for example.

Also, a coach doesn’t tell you what to do.  They ask carefully tailored and thought-provoking questions to help their clients find the answers they need. It’s about asking the client how they would like to move forward and offering support in that area.

How can a health and wellness coach help you?

A coach is an accountability partner and constant support to help you achieve your goals and create a life you love.  They are there to guide you, offer inspiration and motivation throughout your time working together.

No matter what your overall goal is a coach will ensure that you move forward even when you feel like giving up. A coach will make you feel determined to succeed, inspired, lifted and supported.

Do you need a health and wellness coach?

You should have a better understanding about what coaching is and how it works a little better now. At this point, you may be thinking if hiring a coach is the right step for you. Here are some of the things that you should ask yourself:

  • Are you determined to make positive changes to your lifestyle, but not sure how?
  • Are you tired of never having any time for your needs?
  • Do you struggle with your mindset?
  • Are you constantly feeling overwhelmed and exhausted?
  • Is prioritising your own wellbeing a struggle?
  • Do you find it a challenge to make your wellness-related goals happen?

If you’re nodding ahead to those questions, a health and wellness coach would be a fantastic way for you to move forward in your life.  Investing in yourself is key to making things happen and hiring a coach can be a transformative experience.
