This month’s #SelfCareDiaries interview is with the fabulous Zoe Blaskey. I first discovered Zoe over on Instagram and was excited to find out that she also hosted a podcast that I often listen to while out on my walks with the baby.

Zoe’s podcast, Motherkind, inspires mums to be kinder to themselves, dump the perfectionist mindset, and live their best lives.  She’s also offers personalised coaching sessions to help you reconnect with YOU.

What does self care mean to you?

It means staying connected to myself and true to myself – no matter what is going on around me. It’s having the intention to always be kind to myself.

Do you have any self care rituals/practices that really anchor your day?

Yes – I do a gratitude list, a short meditation and at least a few lines in my journal every day.

What does your morning routine look like?

If I’ve had a good night’s sleep (which is about 50% of the time with a toddler…) then I’ll get up at 6.30am and meditate and I’ll scribble in my journal my intentions for the day. Jessie then wakes up at 7am and we’ll head downstairs for breakfast and hang out until 8am when we both get dressed and then we leave for nursery at 8.30am, I’ve started going for a run straight after nursery drop off which feels great and is a big tick to get my exercise for the day done before 9.30am.

How do you make time for self care?

I prioritise it, so I don’t watch much TV and I have lots of unanswered emails, whatsapps, DM’s.

During a challenging point in your life what key things got you through?

Therapy has really helped me at different points in my life, so has meditation and yoga. Anything that brings me back to myself and allows me to feel my feelings really helps when I’m challenged.

What’s in your self care toolkit? Which items bring you most comfort?

Kundalini yoga, a hot bath with lavender, recovery meetings, meditation, gratitude lists, journalling and hugging my daughter.

What quote really resonates with you and why?

There are so many quotes I love, but one of my all time favourites is “I am never in control of what happens around me, but I am always in control of what happens within me.”

What are you currently working on?  Anything that you would like to share?

In myself, I’m working on being more vulnerable and for Motherkind my focus is reaching more mums with the podcast.
