Two colourful frozen yoghurt smoothie recipes using seasonal pear and beetroot with lots of delicious autumnal flavours and ingredients.

Autumn vibes are in the air and I’m more than excited.  It’s my favourite season and one of the best things about it is the fresh produce that’s available.  I received some pears and beetroot in my organic vegetable box the other week, so I thought that I would use them to create some recipes.   Smoothies aren’t just for summer, but for the colder months too and a fantastic way to use up the best of the autumnal fruit and vegetables. I’ve created 2 seasonal recipes to share with you, a pear, cinnamon and ginger smoothie and a cacao, beetroot, and berry smoothie bowl; both made using vanilla frozen yoghurt.

These colourful smoothie recipes are to celebrate my participation in the Brighton Color Run next weekend as part of my collaboration with yoomoo and their yootime campaign, inspiring women to be the best version of themselves.  I’ve always wanted to take part in a Color Run, they look so fun and everyone appears to be having a great time.  Described as the happiest 5K on the planet, a Color Run involves getting covered head to toe in vibrant colours at 4 colour zones on the race route. The best thing about it is that you don’t have to run, you can skip, walk, hop, dance, basically do whatever makes you happy and gets you over the finish line.

These vibrant and flavourful smoothies would be a great to drink to the run up to the event, in keeping with the rainbow colours that are present at the Color Run.   They’re super tasty and the yoomoo’s vanilla frozen yoghurt that I’ve used in both recipes adds a lovely creaminess and is low in fat and calories.  Since it has a neutral but sweet taste, this plainer frozen yoghurt flavour is great mixed in with lots of different ingredients. It works wonderfully with the ginger and cinnamon in the pear smoothie and helps to create a thicker texture to the beetroot smoothie bowl.

Cacao, Beetroot & Berry Smoothie Bowl

An earthy beetroot smoothie bowl that's sweetened with berries and vanilla frozen yoghurt.

Course: Smoothie
Author: Jemma Andrew-Adiamah
Ingredients
  • 1 small beetroot
  • 1 banana
  • handful of frozen berries
  • 2 tsp cacao powder
  • 2 tbsp yoomoo vanilla frozen yoghurt
  • 2-3 tsp maple syrup
  • 150ml almond milk
Instructions
  1. Blitz all the ingredients together in a blender until smooth.

  2. Serve in a bowl and top with your favourite nuts and seeds.

I don’t I think I could choose a favourite between the 2 smoothie recipes.  I like them both for different reasons. The pear smoothie has got autumn written over it with the warmth from the ginger and cinnamon.  From the beetroot smoothie, you get that inherent earthy taste with a sweetness from the frozen berries and frozen yoghurt too. Also, chocolate or in this case cacao with beetroot is such a well-known flavour combination that works so well.

I’m so excited for my Color Run!  Since I’m trying to get back on track with my health and fitness routines it’s nice to have something to work towards, plus it’s going to be fun too. If you’re going to be there make sure you come and say hello at the yoomoo activation zone, and share any images on social with the hashtag #yootime.

I’m not entirely sure how I will be styling my t-shirt for the race just yet, but you can be certain that it will involve lots of bright colours and may some sparkles too.   Wish me luck!
