Oh, my! How have we hit July already? The year is just whizzing by and so has my second pregnancy because this is the month when our little family of 3 is expanding to a family of 4…eek! I’m both nervous and excited about the prospect of life with an energetic 3-year-old and a newborn. I’m sure we will muddle through and wing it in our usual style, but I’m under no illusions that those first few weeks are going to be hard.
The gorgeous summer sunshine that we’ve been blessed with last month has really put a positive spring in my step. Spending time in the sunshine is such a mood booster and after coming back from our holiday it’s helped banish any holiday blues.
Building Nursery Furniture
We painted the baby’s room a few months ago, and it’s been like a blank canvas ever since. A weekends ago, we had a massive delivery (I mean 10 boxes worth) of nursery furniture that we’d picked out in Mamas and Papas way back in January. It was amazing to finally have it all in the house and even more so when my mum and stepdad came over to help build it all. Safe to say that it made everything feel more real, which sounds like a weird thing to say, but it feels so surreal that we’re having another baby even if we are approaching the end. I felt a little emotional folding and hanging her clothes in her wardrobe and chest of drawers and I can’t believe that she will be wearing them soon.
Family Days Out and Making Memories
I’ve been talking a lot about the strong desire to create lots of family memories with Aiden before his baby sister arrives and we definitely made the most of the beautiful sunshine and did that last month. We were lucky enough to be invited to stay at a lovely hotel Chicheley Hall, a lovely secluded spot in the Buckinghamshire countryside. Also, just this weekend we headed to Twinlakes, a place where my cousins take their children a lot, but I’d never been before. There was so much to do for the little ones as well as a water splash park and farm. Aiden had the best day and surprised me with the kind of rides that he would go on, he has no fear that kid!
Strawberry Picking at the Local PYO
I absolutely love strawberry season and one of my fondest childhood memories is going strawberry picking with my grandparents at the local pick your own or on their allotments. Every year I make sure to take my little boy to the strawberry fields and he loves it! I’m hoping to go again soon to pick some raspberries when they ripen.
Having a Declutter and Nesting
I’m pretty sure that the nesting has started way earlier this pregnancy than the last. I’ve been decluttering, selling things and bagging things up for charity and generally just having a good clearout. I think it’s natural to want the house to be organised and looking it’s best with a new arrival, even though she’s not going to care one bit!
As you can see, things have mainly been focused on getting ready for the baby around here over the past few weeks and I think the same can be said for July too.
