Sunshine in a smoothie? Brighten up your day by adding a blood orange to your smoothie. This super easy smoothie recipe is perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
New smoothie obsession alert! You guys know how much I love my smoothies and enjoy experimenting with different flavours. Now that we are coming into spring and the weather is milder, I’m getting back into my smoothies again and really enjoyed mixing things up by adding a blood orange to my breakfast smoothie.
A celebration of blood oranges in smoothie form!
- 1 blood orange peeled
- 1 banana
- 2 tbsp full fat greek yoghurt
- 2 tbsp cashew nuts
- 1 tsp ground flax seeds
- 1 tsp maca powder
- 250 ml almond milk
-
Place all the ingredients into a blender and blitz until smooth.
-
Serve and enjoy!
Let’s just pause for a moment and admire the beauty of blood oranges, stunning! Their season is pretty short, and sometimes I miss them when they’re at their best, but not this year. I kept my eye out and snapped some up when I was out shopping the other week.
The citrus zing is a tasty contrast to the creaminess of this smoothie that comes from the yoghurt and cashew nuts is a nice contrast and it certainly kicks starts your morning if you’re having this for breakfast. Equally, if you’re making this as an afternoon pick me up, it will definitely give you that lift that we all seem to need around that time of day.
This looks really delicious! We don’t make smoothies these days and were just saying we must get back into it!

Love this idea! Sounds like a really nutritious breakfast. I’d maybe add some cacao to make it a chocolate orange smoothie!!
That would be amazing!
